restore.renew.rest

Daily we are hunting and hauling furniture, changing displays, sanding, cleaning, waxing and buffing. Working hard with our hands and bodies and minds.  We often forget  that in our excitement and fervor to build a business we love, it's important to take care of ourselves, too.

When you are crazy about something... decorating, gardening, crafting, fitness, baseball, bowling or baking, it's far too easy to get so consumed that we forget to invite rest and balance into our lives. You know what I mean...

Have you woken up in the night because ideas won't let you sleep?

Tried to figure out how to knit with tendinitis ?

Do you read past your bedtime?

Run with a sore knee?

Continue mulching even though your back is killing you?

Or just don't make time for dinner together at home?

We are all guilty to some degree... There's a lot of pressure out there to get things done!

But seriously, our projects can wait and it's not the end of the world . In fact, we may find those projects even more satisfying when we are rested, balanced and restored.

It's something JR and I want to do...need to do for ellen j goods and ourselves .

a fresh start for 2015

While the wind was howling down Main Street today, we were snugged inside ellen j goods preparing for the weeks ahead . Christmas had to come down, a new window display started, and of course, there was painting and fixing to be done.

While we were in Glen Ellen visiting the kids last week, a plan for the January window  started to formulate .

First was finding these seriously wintery and whimsically perfect curtain panels from Ikea ...

(After all the Christmas stuff, it always feels good to do something really fresh and clean, doesn't it? )

Part two of the plan was secured after multiple emails over the past few weeks about buying an awesome vintage patio set. The guy actually said that he would spray paint it red if I didn't buy it!!!!  Talk about a rescue mission! It is perfect as is, in all of its layers of chippy white painted glory.

(And notice those delicious minty aqua seat cushions???? Seriously. )

So the rest of the winter window will include some drippy glass chandeliers, lots of birch branches and chippy white windows. Clean and light, snowy and bright.

It's always a kick for us to create that window display.  The window becomes such a fun invitation to the shop, just a hint at what's inside ... inspiration, goodness and smiles.

UPDATE: the patio set has already sold! And the buyer has graciously allowed us to keep it in the window for awhile so that everyone can enjoy it's wonderfullness!
